What is TravelTalk®? TravelTalk® provides customers the ability to utilize their MetroPCS phone outside their local coverage area.
Who Can Get TravelTalk®? All customers can order TravelTalk®; however, these phones are not TravelTalk® capable:
The following phones may only be used for inter-market traveling:
How much does TravelTalk® cost? There is no charge to order TravelTalk®. However, the cost for each call depends on where you travel. If you travel to another MetroPCS market, then each local or incoming call is free. If you happen to be on one of our unlimited long distance plans, each long distance call you place is free. If you travel outside a MetroPCS calling area, then each call you place or receive will be either $.49 or $.79 per minute plus tax.
While I am traveling can I call Directory Assistance? If so, how much will I pay? When traveling you may call directory assistance. When traveling outside a MetroPCS city, either the $.49 or $.79 per minute plus tax will apply plus any other directory assistance charges. When traveling within another MetroPCS city, only the regular directory assistance charges apply ($0.75 plus tax for per call directory and no additional charge for Unlimited Directory Assistance users).
How do I add TravelTalk®?
What is a Preferred Roaming List (PRL)? A list of our Roaming Partners that is stored on your MetroPCS phone. This list provides the ability to travel onto our Roaming Partners’ networks.
How do I update my Preferred Roaming List? While you are in your local calling area, dial *228 from your MetroPCS phone and follow the instructions to update your Preferred Roaming List at anytime.
Where can I go to get information or help with an issue while I am traveling? From a landline phone you may call 1-888-8METRO8 and we will assist you.
Am I charged for calling MetroPCS Customer Service while traveling? If you dial 611 from your phone, the call is free; however this will only allow you to make a payment on your account. If you need to reach customer service at MetroPCS, dial 1-888-8metro8 from a landline because a call to this number from your phone will incur a charge.
Can I use TravelTalk® as soon as I activate my account? After you add the TravelTalk® feature to your account, update the preferred roaming list (PRL), set your phone to roam and ensure you have appropriate funds in your MetroConnect account, you will be able to start using TravelTalk® outside your home coverage area.
Why can’t I use TravelTalk® on other phones? Currently MetroPCS is only offering this service on specific phones that are dual and tri-mode. You can purchase a dual or tri-mode phone at a MetroPCS store or authorized dealer to take advantage of this feature.
What happens if I receive a phone call while I am traveling? If you are outside of your home coverage area and receive a call that you answer and accept, you will be charged the TravelTalk® per minute rate. After you answer the call, you will hear a whisper, informing you that an incoming TravelTalk® call is waiting. The cost for the call is either $.49 or $0.79 per minute plus taxes and fees. The recording will then inform you how much time you have for the call, based on your MetroConnect account balance. If you chose to accept the call, press 1. If you chose not to accept the call (do not press 1), then the call will go to your voice mail, if you have voice mail.
What happens if I miss a phone call while I am traveling? If you do not answer the phone and have voicemail, the person calling you can leave a voicemail message at no cost. If you do not have voicemail then the person that is trying to reach you will hear a message that says “the person you are trying to reach is currently out of the MetroPCS calling area”. When checking your voicemail from your phone while traveling outside your MetroPCS home coverage area you will incur the TravelTalk® per minute charge. Additionally, your voicemail indicator may or may not indicate that you have a voicemail while you are traveling.
I was on a call while I was traveling and my call dropped. What happened? Your call may have dropped for the following reasons:
Please note that MetroPCS will not provide credit for dropped calls.
Can I transfer the TravelTalk® feature to a new phone? Yes, as long as the phone supports traveling, and you update the software in your phone by dialing *228, you can transfer the service.
Do any of my other features work while I am traveling? Most of your features will work when you travel into another MetroPCS market. However, while traveling outside of one of our markets you will not be able to download ring tones, send or receive pictures or text messages.
When I try to make a call, why am I getting a "Fast Busy" signal? This may be an indicator that you are out of funds in your MetroConnect Account. Please check your MetroConnect account by calling 1-888-8metro8 from a land line to check your balance and add funds. If you recently added funds, turn your phone off then back on to refresh the network.
When I try to make a call, why am I getting "dead air"? This may be an indicator that you are out of funds in your MetroConnect Account. Please check your MetroConnect account by calling 1-888-8METRO8 from a landline phone.
When I try to make a call, why am I asked for a Credit Card when I have funds in my MetroConnect account? There are some areas where MetroPCS does not have a TravelTalk® service. If you hear a notification that you have reached a network that requests a Credit Card or Prepaid Card this is not part of the TravelTalk® network.
I’ve just made a deposit into my MetroConnect account, why am I still not able to place a long distance call? This sometimes happens when you travel. If you power your phone off then back on, it will refresh the network to recognize your payment.
Can I dial 911 while Traveling? Yes.
How do I place a long distance call? Just as you would a long distance call from your home area, by dialing the area code and number.
How do I place an international long distance call? Dialing an international call is no different when traveling. However, the charge will consist of the rate for the international call (depending on the destination) plus either $.49 or $0.79 plus tax for each minute. These charges will be deducted from your MetroConnect account.
How do I call 411? The same as dialing directory assistance from your home city—411.
I added the feature, updated my preferred roaming list, and have sufficient funds in my MetroConnect account but I cannot make a call. What do I do now? Please check to see if your phone is set for “Home Only”. If your phone is set to “Home Only”, please change it to Roaming or Automatic (this is phone dependent). Please refer to your phone manual for instructions.
I am in my local calling area, but I hear a TravelTalk® announcement. What do I do now? If this occurs while you are in your local calling area, please set your phone to “Home” Only”. This will prevent you from going into the TravelTalk® mode. Please refer to your phone manual for instructions. Please power off your phone and then turn it back after changing the setting.
Can I send or receive text messages while I’m in the TravelTalk® coverage areas? You may be able to send or receive text message in certain areas. MetroPCS is currently expanding SMS text messaging services into all TravelTalk® coverage areas.
